Smoky cherry, spice and toast notes lead off in this firm and sinewy red, with black cherry, violet, blood orange and chalky mineral flavors underneath. This has terrific energy and fine length, just needs time to integrate.

Here the generous wood treatment presently fights somewhat with the menthol, cassis, spice and essence of black cherry liqueur-suffused nose. There is a beguiling texture to the vibrant, detailed and intensely mineral-driven medium weight flavors that coat the palate with dry extract while delivering marvelous persistence on the very firmly structured finish. This is very definitely built-to-age and it's going to need it. I would add that this is unlikely to make an especially good candidate for early consumption so patience absolutely required.

The 2015 Volnay 1er Cru Les Caillerets "Ancienne Cuvée Carnot" would definitely be one of my picks from Bouchard Père this vintage. It has a lovely, expressive, terroir-driven bouquet with red cherry, crushed strawberry and wet limestone. There is impressive delineation here. The palate is medium-bodied, very well balanced with caressing, supple tannin that belie the structure underneath. I like the energy, the frisson here and the length lingers in the mouth, a tang of orange peel and Moroccan spice on the aftertaste. This comes recommended - chapeau!

Bright, moderately saturated dark red. Aromas of black cherry, dark chocolate, menthol, licorice and minerals. Plush, concentrated and stuffed with extract, with dark cherry, spice, licorice and flinty mineral flavors giving this savory wine excellent energy in the context of the year. Seriously broad, tactile wine with substantial but fully ripe tannins that coat the front teeth. No hole in the middle here! Still a bit youthfully medicinal but fresh, dense and long.
