Chateau Grand Puy Lacoste GCC 2003
Description
The Grand-Puy-Lacoste 2003 presents an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers a complex combination of blackcurrant, blackberry and cherry, with added hints of spices. On the palate, this wine shows its richness. Its structure is harmoniously full-bodied and the tannins are well-balanced. Its superb breeding is evident in the splendid length of the finish. This vintage has already started to express its personality but it will also evolve wonderfully with ageing, developing as it does ever more complex flavors to give increasing pleasure.
Grape Varieties: 75% Cabernet Sauvignon - 20% Merlot - 5% Cabernet Franc

An atypically superficial effort from one of my favorite Pauillacs, the 2003 Grand-Puy-Lacoste is very good, but it does not stand up to some of the finest northern Medoc offerings. A deep ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by a moderately intense bouquet of black currants and underbrush. It hits the palate with good fruit and medium body, but tails off in the finish. It is an elegant, lighter-styled example of this generally high-class performer. It can be consumed over the next 10-12 years.
