Description
Château Kirwan's vines still grow on exactly the same plots as when the vineyard was classified at the top of the Médoc third crus classés in 1855. The Schÿler family who manage the property have maintained their links with Denmark. The Schröders and the Schÿlers are Denmark's consuls in Bordeaux. The vineyard consists of a 35 hectare single block of vines, and enjoys an excellent aspect, with a high point of 20 metres on the Cantenac plateau. The vines planted include a significant proportion of Petit Verdot (10%).

Château Kirwan's wines are very typical of Margaux- feminine and delicate, with a characteristic elegant bouquet of vanilla and ripe fruit. They gdevelop finesse as they age. Château Kirwan enjoys an international reputation, due to its exceptional terroir, the high technology used in the vineyard, and the meticulous care taken during the vinification process.

Rating and reviews

91 points Neal Martin - Wine Advocate
"The 2014 Kirwan has a brisk raspberry and wild strawberry nose, a touch confit with rose petal scents emerging with time, the vanilla aspect observed in barrel now completely assimilated. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin and well-judged acidity. Harmonious in the mouth with good body, it builds nicely with cedar and white pepper-infused black fruit, though it just cuts away swiftly on the finish that maybe knocked off a point on the bottle tasting in October 2016, though six months later, a second bottle showed more persistence. This is a commendable Kirwan that should give 15-20 years of pleasure."
